A vintage Moorcroft shallow bowl or plate in the Anemone design.
The diameter is 25.3cm (9.96 inch) and the height 2.7cm (1.06 inch).
The anemone pattern was first designed by William Moorcroft in 1938 and then redrawn by Walter Moorcroft in 1975. Walter Moorcroft retired in 1987 but in 1988 he was invited to redraw the original design, and the new range was issued in 1989.
Regarding the age of this item the backstamps include the impressed 'Bell' year cypher for 1991 i.e. which confirms 1991 as the actual year this item was made.
Condition:-
Vintage items may have imperfections due to the manufacturing processes of the day, usage perhaps over many years and how an item has been stored. Any significant issues will always be highlighted in the description and high quality images are provided.
This shallow bowl or plate has been closely inspected and assessed as in very good vintage condition, in fact the only issue possibly worthy of mention is what might be best described as a tiny glaze flake off the outer rim which can be difficult to notice and even harder to photograph. It appears to have some of the glaze remaining and there is no sign of any surrounding trauma. In reality there is little to detract from the item's appearance as a very attractive display piece.
The colours remain bright and on the rarer yellow ground make for a very attractive vintage item to add to a collection. Of course the physical size may make it ideal to display as a stand alone specimen piece, perhaps in an entrance hall or reception room.
This vintage Moorcroft shallow bowl / plate in the Anemone pattern is available by online order however if visiting the Antiques Centre in York please visit Cabinet 138 on the Lower Ground Floor to view further Moorcroft Pottery from early vintage items to more modern times.
