A Moorcroft boxed, vintage shallow bowl or plate in the Poppy design by Rachel Bishop.
With a diameter of 26.1cm (10.27 inch), a height of 2.9cm (1.14 inch) and a weight of 0.724 kg this item certainly presents as an impressive piece.
Rachel Bishop joined Moorcroft in 1993 as only the forth designer in the company's history and quickly established herself as a senior designer, and her designs are now widely collected.
The backstamps include ©96 showing 1996 as the design copyright year and the HC year cypher for 1997 showing this as the year the plate was actually made. Interestingly, Moorcroft chose 1997 to be their centenary year i.e. 100 years from when William Moorcroft began his career with James MacIntyre.
The pattern features on the front page of the Moorcroft Collectors Club Newsletter August 1997.
Both the shallow bowl and the box are in excellent condition with only faint crazing, as often present on vintage Moorcroft pottery, present and commensurate with age.
This shallow bowl in the Poppy design is available by online order only however if planning to visit the Antiques Centre on Stonegate, York further examples of Moorcroft Pottery can be viewed, from early vintage pieces to more modern times.
Please Note: This item is offered for sale for purposes of display, collecting etc and may not be suitable for use with foodstuff.
