A vintage Moorcroft inverted rim bowl from the Moorcroft Museum.
The diameter of the bowl is 130mm (5.11inch) and the height 43mm 1.69inch.
This bowl has a number of impressed backstamps on the base i.e. William Moorcroft's signature, POTTER TO HM THE QUEEN (to the lower right hand side of the signature) and MADE IN ENGLAND.
These backstamps give a date for this bowl of c1928 to 1949.
On occasions Moorcroft will sell pieces from their museum and the base of this bowl has a Moorcroft Museum label showing it was once a museum item and a piece of Moorcroft history, hence likely of added interest for collectors.
Vintage items may have imperfections due to the manufacturing processes of the day, usage over many years and how an item has been stored. Small surface marks, tiny fleabites, areas of matt glaze, small idiosyncrasies, fine crazing etc etc may be present but any significant issues will always be highlighted.
The bowl has been closely inspected and assessed as in very good vintage condition. In fact the only issues considered worthy of mention are a tiny fleabite to the lower rim and what appears to be some areas of thicker glaze i.e. 'glaze waving' on the side.
The colour graduates from a very dark brown/almost black at the base up to a mid brown colour at the rim with the glaze having a deep lustre appearance. Overall, an attractive vintage display item with the added interest of the bowl been a one time Moorcroft Museum piece.
This bowl is available online only however if visiting the Antiques Centre in York a visit to Cabinet 138, situated on the Lower Ground Floor, might be of interest where a selection of Moorcroft items from early vintage pieces to more modern examples can be seen.
