Description
A massively rare to find Aethelred II - ( The Unready), solid silver short cross coin ,pierced and used as a viking ladies pendant. This item which dates to circa 968 -1016 AD, is in lovely allover condition.
It shows Aethelred 11 to the obverse side, whilst the reverse shows the short cross.
Aethelred the Unready was the English King who paid the Vikings Danegeld , in effect, a tax to stop them invading England.
Coins from his reign are often found pierced as they were worn by Viking Ladies to show Viking superiority.

Lincolnshire excavations / collection formed in the 1970s.
