Description
A fabulously rare and extremely good quality ancient greek, south italian ,decorated blackware Kantharos drinking vessel.
This item which dates to circa 5th -4th century BC - ( From the time of Alexander the Great ) , is in wonderful allover condition and free from restoration and repair.
This item which has both high handles still present was associated with the ritualistic consumption of wine and therefore attributed to the god Dionysus.
The body of this pieces still shows the original decoration of vine tendrils in a splayed array to each face..
A fabulous artifact and of very good style and proportions.
Size 17.8 CM in Height. X 20.4 CM Handle to Handle.
Ex. Private collection formed in the 1980s.
