A very rare and very fine quality late roman , Byzantine period ,large bronze waist belt buckle and plate.
This item which dates to circa 7th-10th century AD, is in excellent all over condition.
It has wonderful decoration to the buckle plate and still retains a good proportion of its original gilding.
This item in its day would have been worn on a waist belt of a soldier of rank and wealth and as such is very rare to find..
