Vintage 1970s Zolotas Greek Revival 950 Silver Gilt Collar Necklace

The necklace is beautifully constructed from a series of individual square plaques, each measuring approximately 12mm x 12mm and decorated in high relief with a repeating stylised foliate/palmette motif inspired by the decorative arts of Ancient Greece.

Each plaque is articulated and joined to the adjoining section at the upper corners, allowing the necklace to flex and naturally follow the contours of the neck. This clever construction gives the substantial collar a wonderfully fluid appearance when worn.

Crafted in 950 grade silver with a rich gold-gilt finish, the necklace bears applied plaques to the reverse stamped ZOLOTAS, 950, together with additional Greek workshop/control marks.

Zolotas is one of Greece’s most celebrated jewellery houses, internationally recognised for designs drawing inspiration from Ancient Greek, Byzantine and archaeological jewellery. This necklace is a particularly attractive example of the bold Greek Revival style for which the house became renowned during the 20th century.

The articulated decorative section measures approximately 40cm, with an overall wearable length of approximately 41cm (16⅛ inches) including the shepherd’s crook catch.

With a substantial weight of 55.9 grams, this is an impressive piece of vintage designer jewellery with a wonderful presence when worn.

The necklace remains in good vintage condition, displaying age-related surface wear and patination consistent with its age and previous wear.
