A posy holder also known as a Tussie Mussie were used in Victorian times and were carried close to the nose to ward off the stench in the streets and the plague and were composed primarily of scented herbs such as rosemary, thyme. These days they are used by brides to hold their posies.
This example is French gilt ormolu. The gilding is slightly worn at the base of the handle. Measuring 140mm long.
