The Roi de Rome, An Early 19th Century Ormolu Mounted Circular Snuff Box with Central Engraving of the Infant Son of Napoleon Bonaparte, After Francois Pascal Simon Gerard. The snuff box is of turned ebonised wooden form with two bands of ribbon and reeded ormolu mounts. The inner mount surrounding a glazed portrait engraving. The box dates to the early 19th century.
The likely engraver was Auguste Gaspard Louis Desnoyers and the original painting was by Francois Pascal Simon Gerard, circa 1811. The Roi de Rome, known as Napoleon II (1811 - 1832), died of tuberculosis at the age of 21.
In very good condition with no losses, or damage, to the wooden box. The outer band of ormolu mounting with one stable split (best seen in photo 2). No glass damage.
Approximate dimensions are 9.3 cm diameter and 3.4 cm height.
Approximate weight is 76 grams.
