Description
This rare Victorian Old Mine Cut 5-Stone Diamond Ring, is a stunning piece of jewellery that exudes antique charm. The ring features five old mine cut diamonds, each set in a delicate gold band that highlights their unique sparkle.
The old mine cut diamonds in this ring are particularly noteworthy for their historical significance and distinctive appearance. Originating from the 18th and 19th centuries, the old mine cut is an early form of the brilliant cut, known for its slightly irregular, cushion-like shape and larger facets that create a softer, more romantic glow compared to modern cuts. A defining feature of these diamonds is the culet, a small flat facet at the bottom of the stone, which is visible through the top and adds to their antique allure. This culet, along with the high crown and smaller table of the old mine cut, gives the diamonds a unique depth and character, capturing the light in a way that feels both vintage and mesmerising, making this ring a rare and cherished find.
With the old-cut diamonds and the scrollwork from the Victorian era, the inner shank has been stamped with a full set of British hallmarks. Its previous owner has confirmed that the ring was re-hallmarked in the 70s during resizing (no obvious sign of resizing is visible), which match with the London 1977 stamp.
