Ornate Victorian Silver Plate on Copper Figural Lidded Tankard. The domed and hinged cover with warrior finial, armed with spear & shield. The cover profusely decorated with figures, portraits & patterns. The main body with three oval panels depicting classical scenes. The panels are titled in Latin for Patience, Shrewdness & To Not Want. The remainder of the body is richly detailed with figures & leaves. The ornate handle with applied leaf detail.
Marked to the underside for John Grinsell & Sons, circa 1870 - 1890.
In excellent order with very light surface wear. A few areas of warm copper bleed showing through on the high points.
