Description
A beautiful large Elkington and Co Silver Plated table centrepiece of a mythical goddess holding a scythe intertwined with sheaths of wheat. Her other hand is held aloft holding a cornucopia on which a glass bowl is supported. The glass bowl depicts similar engraved images. The depicted god is possibly Demeter who overseas the harvest, and is also associated with fertility and marriage. The base of the centrepiece is stamped with Elkington's mark for 1841. 44 cm high including bowl 25 cm across the bowl. 2.856 kg with bowl 1.747kg without bowl The centrepiece is in excellent antique condition commensurate with age and light usage. The silver plating is excellent as you would expect from Elkington with no bleeding or rubbed areas. The glass bowl is in good condition with some small rubs and some scuffs to the rim which can be felt rather than seen.
