Anglo Indian Silver Armorial Waiter for Lieutenant General Henry Thomas CB (1790 - 1858). The waiter features an ornate raised border with gadrooned, scrolling leaf and shell detail. Raised on three ornate bracket feet. The field with engraved scrolling leaf detail.
The armorial commemorates the 1836 marriage of Lieutenant General Henry Thomas CB and Elizabeth Idonea Taylor. Lt Gen Thomas received his first commission as an Ensign in the 27th (Inniskilling) Regiment of Foot in 1798. He served in Malta and Naples under Lt Gen Sir James Henry Craig KB. In 1813 he commenced service in the Peninsular War and saw action at the Battles of Vittoria, Pyrenees, Roncesvalles, Nivelle, Bayonne, Orthes & Toulouse. He also served at the Investment of Pameluna, the Passage of Bidassoa and at the Capture of the Heights of Vera. In 1814 he saw action at the Battle of Plattsburgh, during the War of 1812. He later took command of the 20th Regiment and was posted in India from 1827 until 1833.
