Louis XV French Silver Snuff Box. Of Oval Form, with Repousse Work Depicting Baroque Trophies to the Cover and Base, Within Oval Laurel with Ribbon, Batons and Floral Panels to the Side.
Paris 1753 mark and mark for article for export. The maker's mark features the letters J and P under a crowned fleur-de-lys, with a pellet at each side. A tiny mid 20th century Dutch import mark 'ZI' for 925 standard silver. This mark is shown in the penultimate photo but is too small to photograph clearly.
Approximate weight is 58 grams or 1.8 troy ounces.
Approximate dimensions are 6.2 cm length, 4.9 cm width and 2.6 cm height.
In fair to good condition with some splits in the baton area, as per the last photo. These splits are stable and only visible when looking from the inside and holding up to the light (shown in the last photo). Interior gilding is good and only traces of the exterior gilding remain. Free of dents and creases.
