Late Georgian pair of Old Sheffield Plated, crested, entree dishes and covers on warming stands. Circa 1820. The entree dishes and covers both feature heavily gadrooned foliate borders. The warming stands are raised on substantial and ornate feet and each have twin reeded handles. The loop handles to the covers are acanthus capped and rest on a bed of foliage. The crest features the image of knights helmet.
An excellent and complete example, ready for the dining table.
The undersides of the warming stands carry a thistle mark. This can be attributed to W. Markland of Birmingham, who was active in 1818.
In overall excellent order with surface wear, dints and scratches commensurate with age and their use as serving dishes. Free of dents, creases and splits. Showing some copper bleed. Handles not locking fully tight, but still sit in position and can be used to lift the cover.
Approximate weight for the pair is 7.9 kilos.
Approximate dimensions of one are 35.5 cm length, 23 cm width and 18 cm height.
