Description

Georgian, George III, Crested Silver Inkstand. Of shaped rectangular form with a gadrooned border. Raised on four ornate paw feet. The inkstand features three diamond cut glass bottles with gadrooned and reeded silver caps.

Hallmarked to the underside of the base for London 1816 by J. E. Terrey & Co. The three bottle holders are hallmarked with the lion passant and duty mark of the head of George III. One bottle collar is hallmarked for London 1816, the other two collars are unmarked. All three bottle caps are hallmarked, two are for London 1816 and the third is obscured with only the lion passant visible.

In excellent condition with light surface wear commensurate with age. One bottle cap does not quite sit flush with the bottom of the bottle collar. Some nibbles to the diamond cut section of the largest of the three glass bottles.

Approximate silver weight is 788 grams or 25.3 troy ounces.

Approximate total weight is 1.339 kilos.

Approximate dimensions are 27 cm length, 18.5 cm width and 9 cm height.
