This is a commemorative silver, souvenir spoon, produced to celebrate the Silver Jubilee of King George V and Queen Mary, marking 25 years of their reign (1910–1935) which was held on May 6, 1935.
The spoon features conjoined profiles of the King and Queen on the front handle finial, whilst there is a stylised letter 'N' on the reverse. The bowl of the spoon is gilded with a coating of gold.
This specific boxed commemorative spoon, made by the esteemed Mappin & Webb company, was presented by His Honour Harold Newell, J.P., and Mrs. Newell of Darley Hall, Darley Dale. During this period, it was common for local dignitaries to present such commemorative spoons to citizens to mark significant royal milestones.
This historic spoon is 13cm in length.
