1956 USSR 1MCHZ `GAGARIN`KIROVA STURMANSKIE TYPE 2
`THE FIRST WATCH WORN IN SPACE`
Known as the `Gagarin` watch because Yuri Gagarin, together with his fellow pilots, was presented with one of these watches on graduating from the Orenberg Flight School in 1957, later wearing it on the first mannedspace flight in Vostok 1 on April 12th 1961.
A similar watch was worn by Valentina Tereshkova, the first woman in space, in Vostok 6 on 16/06/63.
Type 2 cal.2634 17J hand wind movement no.043073, with stop seconds(hack) and bearing the First Moscow Watch Factory logo for 1945-1963.
The 17J version replaced the Type 1 15J model and was produced between 1954 to the early 60’s when it was replaced by the Strela chronograph.
Fully restored and in excellent condition. This is an original military pilot officer version not available to the public and not a recent re-issue.
