Antique Moorcroft saucer in a fruit and flower design contained in panels on a plain blue ground.
The diameter of the saucer is 105mm and the height 17mm.
There is the William Moorcroft full signature plus impressed MOORCROFT and BURSLEM marks on which a date assessment of c1914-1916 has been based.
There is crazing present, more evident on the underside rather than the surface, but the saucer is generally in excellent condition considering its age.
As a matter of interest one of the books Moorcroft recommend on their website for design identification is 'A Guide to Moorcroft Pottery 1897-1993 New Edition by Paul Atterbury'. Page 113 of the hardback version of this book shows a group of wares with this fruit and flower pattern with a date reference of c1918 offering added provenance to the antique status of the saucer.
It was in 1913 that William Moorcroft left the James Macintyre works and set up his own factory at Cobridge on the outskirts of Burslem so this piece dates from the very early days of Moorcroft pottery.
An opportunity for a collector to add an attractive piece of antique Moorcroft pottery to a collection.
