A large vintage Moorcroft shallow bowl or plate in the Hibiscus pattern by Walter Moorcroft.
The diameter is 25.6cm (10.07inch) the height 2.9cm (1.14inch) and the weight an impressive 0.862Kg.
The original hibiscus pattern was designed by Walter Moorcroft in 1949 and then redrawn from 1960. The coral hibiscus pattern originally from 1968, as featured on this vase, was also designed by Walter Moorcroft.
With some Moorcroft items it can be difficult to assess age as some production runs could be quite long, and it was not until 1990 that Moorcroft began using year cyphers to show when an item was actually made.
However the style of the impressed MOORCROFT and MADE IN ENGLAND marks on the base of this piece suggests it was made from 1986 but also as a there is no year cypher present the latest possible date should be 1989.
From the detail above it would be reasonable to assess the date of manufacture as c1986 to 1989 and clearly of genuine vintage age.
This item has been closely inspected and assessed as in excellent condition, in fact absolutely superb might be a more appropriate description.
The design features a brown ground which seems to be a somewhat rarer option, producing a lovely autumnal feel.
Ready to make a nice addition to a collection of Moorcroft pottery, however its physical size also means it may be suitable to display and be admired as a stand alone item, perhaps in an entrance hall or reception room etc.
