A vintage Moorcroft shallow bowl in the Mamoura design.
With a diameter of 255mm (10.03 inch), a height of 28mm (1.10 inch) this shallow bowl presents as an impressive piece.
CONDITION:- Nb. This item has been marked as a SECOND QUALITY item by Moorcroft who have a reputation for very thorough quality control before items leave the factory. This shallow bowl has been closely inspected and the only issue thought possible to have caused the second quality rating is what might best be described as a tiny over glazed crease in the rim. This can just be seen on the 4th image and also on the last image close-up, but in reality not particularly noticeable without close inspection.
This shallow bowl is otherwise in excellent condition and would normally be offered for sale around the £100 plus mark, so an opportunity to acquire and display an attractive piece of Moorcroft pottery at a greatly reduced price.
The design was introduced in 1992 and as the base has the Candlestick year cypher for 1992, this shows 1992 also to be the year of production. The item is clearly of genuine vintage age.
A lovely design which features hills and trees in the foreground, with a teal background. Research advises the Mamoura design was inspired by mythology of the Middle East and was one of the designs from 1992 which were based on landscape themes.
The designer, Sally Tuffin, was already a recognised designer when she joined Moorcroft in 1986 and took over full responsibility for design following Walter Moorcroft's retirement in 1987. She was in fact only the third designer, after William and Walter Moorcroft, since the company began.
Sally Tuffin designs are now widely collected.
A nice vintage item which of course, given its physical size, may well be suitable to display as a stand alone specimen piece, perhaps in an entrance hall or reception room.
This shallow bowl in the Mamoura pattern is available online only, however if visiting the Antiques Centre in York, please visit Cabinet 138 i.e. situated on the Lower Ground Floor to view a selection of Moorcroft pottery from early vintage pieces to more modern examples.
Please Note: This item is offered for sale for purposes of display, collecting etc and may not be suitable for use with foodstuff.
