An antique lustre vase by William Moorcroft.
The height is 117mm (4.60inch).
The impressed MOORCROFT and BURSLEM marks on the base date the vase to c1914-1916. The shape identification number on the base is also an impressed mark.
After William Moorcroft left the James Macintyre works he set up his own factory at Cobridge on the outskirts of Burslem in 1913. This vase therefore is from the very early days of Moorcroft pottery and a genuine antique.
Antique items may have small imperfections and/or idiosyncrasies due to the manufacturing processes of the day, usage perhaps over many years and how an item has been stored but any significant issues will always be highlighted in the description.
The green lustre has worn and faded over the years to leave an interesting and attractive patina. Some of the original green lustre remains around the base, followed by grey/green tones, ivory tones and even areas mauve tones (mainly at the neck).
The physical aspects of the vase has also been closely inspected and assessed as in excellent antique condition.
An opportunity for a collector to add a piece of Moorcroft history to a collection, or introduce a different aspect to to the beautiful and colourful designs often associated with Moorcroft pottery.
