A large vintage Moorcroft Shallow Bowl in the Violet design by Sally Tuffin.
The diameter is 254mm (10.00inch), the height 28mm (1.10 inch) and the weight 631g.
The base has the impressed 'Bell' year cypher for 1991 showing this as the year the item was made. One of the reference books recommended by Moorcroft advises this particular design features the new dark blue ground introduced in 1992 i.e. the following year.
Sally Tuffin was already a recognised designer when she joined Moorcroft in 1986 and took over the full responsibility for design following Walter Moorcroft's retirement in 1987. She was in fact only the third designer, after William and Walter Moorcroft, since the company began. Sally Tuffin designs are now very collectable.
There is a great amount of content in this 'eye catching' design, and certainly worthy of special note.
This shallow bowl is in excellent vintage condition with only faint age related crazing to the base and a very minimal amount to the upper surface.
A very attractive vintage item to add to a collection. Of course the physical size may well make it suitable to display as a stand alone specimen piece, perhaps in an entrance hall or reception room.
This Moorcroft shallow bowl in the Violet design is available by online order only however if visiting the Antiques Centre in York please visit Cabinet 138 situated on the Lower Ground Floor to view further Moorcroft Pottery items.
