A very attractive mid size Moorcroft colour trial vase with colours graduating upwards from shades of blue through shades of mid green to light green at the neck, with a dark green rim changing to dark blue for the inner neck.
The vase has a height of 156mm (6.1'').
Regarding age the base marking on this vase include the 'Key with Double M for Teeth' year cypher indicating 2000 as the year of production, plus there is also 20/12 00 shown so it can be dated very accurately.
While the vase is not marked on the base as a Trial item there are codes which may denote the colours been used and is typical of similar items which have been marked as trials. The vase is therefore believed to be a colour trial item and listed as such.
Moorcroft pattern designs start as trials and are produced by the designer until a final version is selected for production or a decision made not to proceed. Some collectors concentrate on trial items perhaps because of the individuality they offer or because they prefer a trial version to the final product. There are also colour trials which allow designers to investigate how different colours work with each other. These might also be very collectable, particularly as they may well be unique.
The vase has been closely inspected and is considered to be in excellent condition. The glaze appears absolutely pristine with a clarity that highlights the colours superbly.
The vase represents a different aspect to the design styles normally associated with Moorcroft, and offers a collector an opportunity to add interest and variety. Perhaps a collector interested in the production processes as well as the beauty of a item itself.
The vase would certainly complement many modern settings where minimalistic designs seem to be the order of the day.
