A fabulous quality late roman , byzantine period , large bronze reliquary cross.
This item which dates to circa 8th -12 th century AD, is in wonderful allover condition.
It shows the figure of Christ on the obverse side, whilst the reverse shows a decorated cross with symbols.
These crosses were used to store small religious relics as they opened into two pieces , thus assuring
the owner of the blessing of heaven.
Presented on a modern thong allowing it to be worn with modern day dress if so desired.
Size 7.5 CM in Length.
EX. Private collection formed in the 1970s- 80s.
