A large vintage Moorcroft vase in the Anemone design by Walter Moorcroft.
With a height of 190mm (7.48inch) a diameter (across the widest section of the body) of 134mm (5.27inch) and a weight of 828g the vase is an impressive item.
The anemone pattern was first designed by William Moorcroft in 1938 and then redrawn by Walter Moorcroft in 1975. Walter Moorcroft retired in 1987 but in 1988 he was invited to redraw the original design, and the new range was issued in 1989.
This vase features the 1989 version of the anemone design which seems to give greater prominence to the foliage and a more dramatic image, although different people will interpret the designs in their own way.
The backstamps on the base include an 'Arrow' symbol which is the year cypher for 1990, hence 1990 is the actual year this particular vase was made, hence a genuine vintage piece.
Antique and vintage items may have small imperfections and/or idiosyncrasies due to the manufacturing processes of the day, usage perhaps over many years and how an item has been stored. Any significant issues will always be highlighted in the description.
This vase has been closely inspected and assessed as in excellent vintage condition.
There is a great deal of artwork on this vase with five anemone flowers around the body, three larger and two smaller. The floral design, with mainly purple and deep pink/red tones, against the very dark blue ground makes for an attractive item which should prove a worthy addition to many a collection of vintage Moorcroft pottery.
Given its physical size the vase could of course be displayed with particular effect as a stand alone, specimen item.
This large vintage vase in the Anemone pattern is available by ordering online only however if visiting the Antiques Centre in York please visit Cabinet 138 which is located on the Lower Ground Floor, to view other items of Moorcroft Pottery from early vintage pieces to more modern examples.
