An incredibly rare and large, early Roman republic period ,bronze bathhouse strigel.
This item which dates to the early days of the republic and circa 500 -400 BC, is in wonderful condition.
It would have been used in the roman bath house after bathing, when oil had been applied to the body after being in a steam room to open the pores of the skin. The stigel would then have scraped the surplus oil from the skin leaving you clean and sweet smelling...
A truly fabulous piece of wonderful style and form..
Some small chipping to the end of the blade but really insignificant on such a rare piece.
EX. Old Coventry collection from the early 1980s.
Size 24.0 CM in Length.
As with all of my antiquities and coins this item comes complete with a certificate of authenticity.
