A very high quality princess Mary gift fund box ,which was intended as a Christmas present for those serving in the 1st world war conflict in 1914.
Made from sheet brass and embossed it would have originally contained chocolate, tobacco, lighter and other useful items.
The boxes were paid for with public money and backed by Princess Mary whose portrait appears on the lid.
This box was probably sent home as the original gilt finish is still very much intact.
As with all of my antiques this item comes complete with a certificate of authenticity.
