A William IV period Old Sheffield Plate Crested Entree Dish & Cover on a Warming Stand. Raised on four heavily cast feet, decorated with foliage. The warming stand has twin leaf capped handles. The entree dish and cover sit on top of an inner liner which would have had hot water underneath it. The liner and cover are marked 1, whilst the entree dish is marked 4. The whole object, including the heavily cast handle, are lavishly decorated with scrolls, acorns and leaves. The crest is of a hand wielding an axe.
In excellent order, free of dents and creases. Very light surface wear for a serving dish of this age. An exceptional example.
The underside of the warming stand and entree dish feature the bell marks of Roberts, Smith & Co. of Sheffield circa 1835. This comapny was formerly known as Roberts, Cadman & Co. and would go onto become Smith, Sissons & Co.
