Moorcroft inverted rim bowl in the Pomegranate design by William Moorcroft.
The diameter of the bowl is 110mm and the height 34mm.
The impressed MOORCROFT and MADE IN ENGLAND stamps on the base along with the impressed shape identification number allows the vase to be dated c1918 to 1926. Nb Referral to reference book advises similar stamps are found from 1926 to 1928 but without an impressed shape identification number due to a change in the manufacturing process. From 1928 to 1949 Moorcroft included the Potter To HM The Queen backstamp on the base and as this does not appear on this bowl it adds credence to the pre 1928 age assessment.
The Pomegranate design was introduced 1910 i.e. while William Moorcroft was still with the James Macintyre works but was continued by him when he set up his own factory at Cobridge on the outskirts of Burslem in 1913. Pomegranate became Moorcroft's most successful design and continued to be produced until the latter part of the 1930's with design updates along the way.
Condition: Antique and vintage items may have imperfections due to the manufacturing processes of the day and usage/storage conditions over the years. Small surface marks, tiny scratches/glaze chips and areas of wear etc may be present. To list such instances separately may be over pedantic however high quality images are provided and any significant issues will be highlighted in the description, and of course any questions will be answered as accurately as possible.
This bowl has been closely inspected and assessed as in excellent antique/vintage condition. A tiny 'flea bite' was noticed on the base rim and is perhaps the only issue worthy of a separate mention. The bowl seems virtually unaffected by crazing which so often appears on Moorcroft pottery of this age. The colours remain bright and on the dark blue ground make for a very attractive item.
An opportunity for a collector to add a piece of vintage and possibly antique (based on the 100 year old definition) Moorcroft pottery from the highly collectable pomegranate range, to a collection.
This inverted rim bowl in the pomegranate design is available online only, however if visiting the Antiques Centre in York please visit Cabinet 138 situated on the Lower Ground Floor to view other items of Moorcroft Pottery from early vintage pieces to more modern examples.
