A vintage Moorcroft vase in the Hibiscus pattern by Walter Moorcroft.
The height is 95mm.
An attractive design on the somewhat rarer yellow tone ground.
The hibiscus pattern has been one of Moorcroft's most enduring designs with a number of developments over the years. Originally drawn by Walter Moorcroft c1949 developments included changes in the early 1960's, the coral hibiscus pattern been introduced in 1968 and further designs following on for some years.
This vase has the 'Potters To The Late Queen Mary' paper label on the base and as this label was used from 1953 to 1978 the vase can be dated to this period, and is clearly of genuine vintage age.
The vase is in very good vintage condition and the paper label remains intact.
There is the faint overall crazing which is often present on these older pieces of Moorcroft pottery. Interestingly, on their website Moorcroft advise their pottery is made from porous earthenware and crazing is just part of the normal ageing process. They talk about how this natural crazing is used by antiques salerooms to help establish the vintage of an item, and identify any restoration.
This vintage Moorcroft hibiscus vase is available either by ordering online or visiting the Antiques Centre in York. The vase is located in Cabinet 138 on the Lower Ground Floor along with other items of Moorcroft Pottery from early vintage to more modern times.
