A small vintage Moorcroft vase in the Hibiscus pattern by Walter Moorcroft.
The height is 68mm.
The vase is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks and only very faint crazing commensurate with age, and only visible with very close inspection.
A lovely design with both red and yellow hibiscus flowers which on the dark blue ground make for a highly attractive item and which should prove a fine addition to many a collection of vintage Moorcroft pottery.
The hibiscus pattern has been one of Moorcroft's most enduring designs with a number of developments over the years. Originally drawn by Walter Moorcroft c1949 developments included changes in the early 1960's, the coral hibiscus pattern introduced in 1968 and further designs following on for some years.
The year an item was actually made can be difficult to assess with absolute certainty as some production runs could be quite long, and it was not until 1990 that Moorcroft began using year cyphers to show when an item was actually made.
As a there is no year cypher on the vase the latest possible date of manufacture should be 1989 and this also coincides with the style of the impressed MOORCROFT and MADE IN ENGLAND backstamps on the base which indicate a date range c1949 to 1986.
The vase is clearly of genuine vintage age.
