A vintage Moorcroft lustre vase with a silver tone metal trim and an attractive variated patina with shades of yellow and light green showing through.
The dish is from the period when William Moorcroft was the designer and the mount is by maker William Hutton & Sons of Sheffield.
The height of the vase is 87mm.
There is an impressed MOORCROFT backstamp and an impressed MADE IN ENGLAND backstamp which together indicate a date range 1926 to 1928 i.e. similar to backstamps found on 1918 to 1926 items but without the impressed shape identification number due to a change in the manufacturing process.
One of the reference books recommended by Moorcroft shows a range of plain lustre items c1916 and also states that wares designed to be mounted in metals, including silver plate, were produced until the 1930's. This detail fits in nicely with the date range above.
After William Moorcroft left the James Macintyre works he set up his own factory at Cobridge on the outskirts of Burslem in 1913 hence this vase is from the early days of the new factory.
Condition: Antique and vintage items may have imperfections due to the manufacturing processes of the day, usage perhaps over many years and how it has been stored. Small surface marks etc may be present but any significant issues will always be highlighted in the description. High quality images are provided as a matter of course and any questions will be answered as accurately as possible.
This vase has been closely inspected and assessed as in very good vintage/antique condition with no apparent chips or cracks.
An opportunity for a collector to add a piece of relatively rare, vintage Moorcroft pottery to a collection, or introduce a different aspect to the beautiful, highly decorative and multi colour designs seen on many later pieces.
This vase is available by online or by visiting the Antiques Centre in York. If visiting the Centre please view Cabinet 138 situated on the Lower Ground Floor for other items of Moorcroft Pottery i.e. early vintage to more modern examples.
