A vintage (and possibly antique, based on the 100 year old definition) Moorcroft green lustre 'roll top' bowl by William Moorcroft.
The diameter of the bowl is 107mm and the height 31mm.
The impressed MOORCROFT and MADE IN ENGLAND stamps on the base along with the apparent shape identification number, also impressed, indicates a date range c1918 to 1926. Nb referral to reference book advises similar stamps are found from 1926 to 1928 but without an impressed shape identification number due to a change in the manufacturing process.
After William Moorcroft left the James Macintyre works he set up his own factory at Cobridge on the outskirts of Burslem in 1913 hence this bowl is from the relatively early days of the new factory.
Condition: Antique and vintage items may have imperfections due to the manufacturing processes of the day, usage perhaps over many years and how it has been stored. Small surface marks etc may be present but any significant issues will always be highlighted in the description. High quality images are provided as a matter of course and any questions will be answered as accurately as possible.
This bowl has been closely inspected and assessed as in excellent vintage/antique condition with no chips or cracks. Where the green lustre has faded in places over the years it has left a very attractive, almost silver marble effect.
An opportunity for a collector to add a piece of vintage (and possibly antique) Moorcroft pottery to a collection, or introduce a different aspect to the beautiful, highly decorative and multi colour designs seen on many later pieces.
This green lustre bowl is currently available online only however if visiting the Antiques Centre in York please visit Cabinet 138 situated on the Lower Ground Floor to view other items of Moorcroft Pottery from early vintage pieces to more modern examples.
