A vintage Moorcroft shallow bowl in the Mamoura design by Sally Tuffin.
With a diameter of 261mm (10.27 inch), a height of 30mm (1.18 inch) and a weight of 0.75 kg this shallow bowl certainly presents as an impressive piece.
The design was introduced in 1992. The 'Flag' symbol on the base is the year cypher for 1995 which shows 1995 to be the actual year of production.
Sally Tuffin was already a recognised designer when she joined Moorcroft in 1986 and took over full responsibility for design following Walter Moorcroft's retirement in 1987. She was in fact only the third designer, after William and Walter Moorcroft, since the company began.
Sally Tuffin designs are now very collectable.
The bowl has been closely inspected and is in excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The age related crazing typical of vintage Moorcroft is mainly on the base with only a minimal amount on the upper surface. The base level has also been checked to be within 1mm allowing for minimal rock.
A lovely design which features hills and trees in the foreground, with a teal background. Research advises the Mamoura design was inspired by mythology of the Middle East and was one of the designs from 1992 which were based on landscape themes.
A very attractive vintage item to add to a collection. Of course the physical size may well make it suitable to display as a stand alone specimen piece, perhaps in an entrance hall or reception room.
This shallow bowl in the Mamoura pattern is available online only, however if visiting the Antiques Centre in York, please visit Cabinet 138 i.e. situated on the Lower Ground Floor to view a selection of Moorcroft pottery from early vintage pieces to more modern examples.
