A large impressive Moorcroft vase in the Wisteria design by William Moorcroft c1920's.
With a height 20.5cm (8.07inch) a width (across the widest section of the body 18.6cm (7.32inch) and a weight 1.48 Kg this vase is a real 'show stopper' which cannot fail to be recognised. It was bought dealer to dealer at a premier antiques fair where it had been admired during the day.
A rare item which searches have not been able to locate another of this shape and size. Indeed many 'special' Moorcroft items are already part of collections. While stunningly beautiful Moorcroft items are still been produced special vintage and antique items have an appeal of their own.
The base of the vase is fully signed with a MOORCROFT, MADE IN ENGLAND and a shape identification number backstamp,all impressed.
In assessing the age of this vase the base marks have been compared against those shown in one of the reference books recommended by Moorcroft and indicate a date range c1918 to 1926. The reference book advises similar stamps are found from 1926 to 1928 but without an impressed shape identification number due to a change in the manufacturing process. As this vase has the shape identification number is can reasonably be assessed as c1918 to 1926. Furthermore the reference book shows design matches for items 1920 to c1925 which fits in nicely with the date assessment.
The vase is clearly of vintage age and quite possibly antique (based on the 100 year age definition).
In excellent overall condition with only faint background crazing commensurate with age.
A rare opportunity for a collector to add a very impressive piece of Moorcroft pottery to a collection. Of course the physical size of this vase means it may be well suited to display as a single stand alone item, perhaps in an entrance hall or reception room.
To be a custodian of such items is a responsibility but at the same time a responsibility which can give a collector a great deal of satisfaction.
