A small vintage Moorcroft vase in the Orchid pattern by Walter Moorcroft.
The height is 92mm.
The orchid pattern was originally developed by William Moorcroft c1937 and further developed by Walter Moorcroft in the 1940's and 1950's .
Regarding age it can be difficult to assess with absolute certainty as some production runs could be quite long, and it was not until 1990 that Moorcroft began using year cyphers to show when an item was actually made.
As a there is no year cypher on the vase the latest possible date of manufacture would be 1989 however there are a number of ways to narrow this down.
The backstamps are believed to be MOORCROFT and MADE IN ENGLAND and although faint and not fully visible suggest a date range c1949 to 1986.
Referral to reference book states the orchid design was last used in 1972.
From the detail above the age can reasonably be assessed as c1950's/60's and in any event of genuine vintage age.
Condition: Vintage items may have imperfections due to the manufacturing processes of the day and usage/storage conditions over the years. Small surface marks, tiny scratches/glaze chips and areas of wear etc may be present. To list such instances separately may be over pedantic however high quality images are provided and any significant issues will be highlighted in the description, and of course any questions answered as accurately as possible. This vase has been closely inspected and assessed as in very good vintage condition.
The floral pattern showing two orchid versions on the dark blue ground makes for an attractive item which should prove a worthy addition to many a collection of vintage Moorcroft pottery.
This vase in the orchid pattern is available online only however if visiting the Antiques Centre in central York please visit Cabinet 138 situated on the Lower Ground Floor to view other items of Moorcroft Pottery from early vintage pieces to more modern examples.
