A vintage Moorcroft vase in the Finches design by Sally Tuffin.
The height is 104mm.
The Finches design on a blue ground was introduced in 1988. From 1990 Moorcroft started to introduce symbols i.e. year cyphers on the base of their pottery to show when an item was actually made. As there is no year cypher on this vase the age can reasonably be assessed as 1988 to 1989 and hence a genuine vintage piece.
Sally Tuffin was already a recognised designer when she joined Moorcroft in 1986 and took over the full responsibility for design following Walter Moorcroft's retirement in 1987. She was in fact only the third designer, after William and Walter Moorcroft, since the company began.
The detail contained within this design is certainly worthy of special note. There are two finches against a background of berries, fruit (understood to be pomegranate) and leaves. The tube lining sits nicely proud of the surface and the colours remain bright. The eye is easily drawn into the scene where the design can truely be admired. Sally Tuffin designs are now very collectable.
The vase has been closely inspected and assessed as in excellent condition.
