A Moorcroft squat vase in the Peacock Parade design by Nicola Slaney.
The diameter (across the widest section of the body) is 131mm (5.15 inch) and the height 106mm (4.17 inch)
The base markings show a design copyright date of 2012 and in addition there is the xylophone year cypher for 2013 which shows this as the year of production.
Interesting it was in August 1913 that William Moorcroft moved to his newly built factory at Cobridge on the outskirts of Burslem so 2013 would be just 100 years later, and on the base of this vase is a special backstamp of a building (resembling a church) with 1913 – 2013 underneath.
Nb this is not to be confused with another Moorcroft centenary as Moorcroft chose 1997 to be their actual centenary year i.e. 100 years from when William Moorcroft began his career with James MacIntyre and the HC centenary year cypher for 1997 would normally be shown on items produced in 1997.
This Peacock Parade vase is in excellent condition and the special backstamp may well add extra interest to a collector.
Overall a very attractive and decorative piece of art pottery. The Peacock Parade design in different variations has featured in a number of Moorcroft catalogues (e.g. 2015, 2017, 2018).
The vase is available online only however if visiting the Antiques Centre in York please visit Cabinet 138 situated on the Lower Ground Floor to view other items of Moorcroft Pottery from vintage pieces to more modern examples.
