A Moorcroft shallow bowl in the Wattle design by Sally Tuffin.
The diameter is 256mm (10 '') the height 26mm and the weight 696g.
The Wattle design was introduced in 1988 initially for the Australian market and then withdrawn in 1990 therefore a fairly short production run which would mean a limited number of items produced. The design does appear much rarer than many available on the secondary market.
On the base there are impressed MOORCROFT and MADE IN ENGLAND backstamps. There are also the painted initials for William John Moorcroft and the painter/paintress.
Sally Tuffin was already a recognised designer when she joined Moorcroft in 1986 and took over the full responsibility for design following Walter Moorcroft's retirement in 1987. She was in fact only the third designer, after William and Walter Moorcroft, since the company began.
Sally Tuffin designs are now very collectable.
The bowl has been closely inspected and is in excellent condition. There are no chips or cracks and while many mainly light coloured Moorcroft items of this age can show a degree of crazing this shallow bowl is totally clear. To perhaps be pedantic it has been noticed the base is maybe a half a millimetre from been completely flat which may be irrelevant for display purposes but mentioned for complete accuracy of description.
An impressive piece which may well be suitable to display as a stand alone item as an alternative to been part of a collection.
This Moorcroft Wattle bowl is only available online however if visiting the Antiques Centre in York please do visit Cabinet 138 situated on the Lower Ground Floor to view other items of Moorcroft Pottery.
Please Note: This item is offered for sale for purposes of display, collecting etc and my not be suitable for use with foodstuff.
