A vintage Moorcroft coaster in the Rock of Ages design by Walter Moorcroft.
The diameter is 157mm and the height 18mm.
The base has the ©98 stamp showing 1998 as the design copyright year and the Jug/Pitcher year cypher for 1999 showing this year as the actual year of production.
One of the reference books recommended by Moorcroft i.e. 'MOORCROFT Winds Of Change by Frazer Street' Page 214 advises the rocky seascape design was based on Trearddur Bay on the island of Anglesey, and that the design was prepared for introduction on only three items i.e. two vases and one coaster.
Walter Moorcroft retired in 1987 but research advises he continued to contribute to the company and additionally that Rock of Ages was his last design.
This coaster has been closely inspected and assessed as in excellent vintage condition with no chips or cracks noted. Any ware to the surface is extremely minor and there are only a few lines of crazing to the base i.e. commensurate with age.
A coaster in this design is seemingly a very rare item that should prove a worthy addition to many a collection of vintage Moorcroft pottery.
