An impressive antique green and ivory jug with a silver tone trim by William Moorcroft.
The height is 143mm (5.62inch).
The impressed MOORCROFT and BURSLEM marks on the base date the jug to c1914-1916. The shape identification number on the base is also an impressed mark.
After William Moorcroft left the James Macintyre works he set up his own factory at Cobridge on the outskirts of Burslem in 1913. This jug therefore is from the very early days of Moorcroft pottery and a genuine antique.
Antique items may have imperfections due to the manufacturing processes of the day, usage perhaps over many years and how an item has been stored. Any significant issues will always be highlighted in the description and high quality images are provided.
This jug has been closely inspected and assessed as in very good antique condition, in fact the only issues thought worthy of separate mention are some wear to the silver tone trim and a tight hairline of approximately 2cm near to the inside top of the jug which does not show through to the outer surface.
An opportunity for a collector to add an attractive, and seemingly quite rare, piece of antique Moorcroft pottery to a collection or introduce a different aspect to the beautiful and colourful designs of later Moorcroft pieces.
The physical size of the jug means it may just be suitable to display as a stand alone item as well been part of a collection.
This Moorcroft antique jug is available by ordering online or by visiting the Antiques Centre in York where it can be found, with other pieces of Moorcroft pottery, in Cabinet 138 situated on the Lower Ground Floor.
Please Note: This item is offered for sale for purposes of display, collecting etc and may not be suitable for use with foodstuff.
