French Bronze & Bois Durci Snuff Box Depicting Guards at Versailles during the French Revolution. The snuff box dates to circa 1840. The detail to the cover is outstanding.
Inscribed 'Gardes Francoise Metant Les Armes Bas A Versailles' (French guards laying down their arms at Versailles)and 'Gardes Francoise Delivre Prisons de Versailles' (French guards release the prisoners of Versailles).
The bottom of the box on the inner lip it is broken approximately 3cm in length with a couple of other smaller chips. The rim of the lid is cracked and there are some chips. It is quite a loose fit between the two. There is some surface wear and scratches.
Approximate weight is 159 grams.
Approximate dimensions are 7.5 cm diameter and 2.7 cm height.
