In classical Greek mythology, Leda was daughter of the Aetolian king Thestius, and wife of king Tyndareus of Sparta. The legend says that Leda was seduced and then raped by Zeus who took on the form of a swan. On the same day she also lay with her husband king Tyndareus.
Leda produced four children - Helen (later Helen of Troy) and Polydeuces by Zeus, and Castor and Clytemnestra by her husband.
This Lalique design dates to the post-war period of Lalique. It was designed by Marc Lalique (René Lalique's son) in 1949. This is a more recent, but still quite early, rendition of the model.
The figurine measures approximately 11.5cm tall. She kneels on a 5.2cm diameter base.
The base is etched "Lalique France" and carries its original Lalique label.
The figurine is in very good condition with no damage noted, and only minimal wear to the base. Please note however, there are some bubble inclusions and folds within the glass from the original manufacture. There is no box.
