A vintage Moorcroft vase in the Rose design by Sally Tuffin.
With a height of 19.3cm (7.59inch) a diameter (across the widest section of the body) of 13.3cm (5.23inch) and a weight of 804grams the vase is an impressive item.
The Rose design was introduced in 1987 and withdrawn in 1991. In 1990 Moorcroft started to use year cyphers on their pottery i.e. symbols on the base to show the year an item was actually made. As there is no year cypher on this vase it would be reasonable to assess the age as from 1987 to 1989.
Sally Tuffin was already a recognised designer when she joined Moorcroft in 1986 and took over the full responsibility for design following Walter Moorcroft's retirement in 1987. She was in fact only the third designer, after William and Walter Moorcroft, since the company began.
Vintage items may have small imperfections and/or idiosyncrasies due to the manufacturing processes of the day, usage perhaps over many years and how an item has been stored but any significant issues will always be highlighted in the description.
This vase has been closely inspected and assessed as in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks or restoration noted.
Sally Tuffin designs are now very collectable and this vase could make a nice addition to many a collection of vintage Moorcroft pottery.
There is a great deal of content in the design with the rose pattern repeating three times around the body. The design presents an attractive combination of style and sophistication which along with its physical size means it may well be suitable to display as a stand alone specimen item as well as been part of a collection.
