This is an Victorian ruby & diamond Toi et Moi ring, crafted in 18ct yellow gold. The setting pairs a pink purpulish ruby (0.30ct) with a transitional cut diamond (0.20ct), their balanced arrangement reflecting the lightness and quiet refinement associated with the antique design.
The “You and Me” is a longstanding motif in European jewellery. The style became widely known when Napoléon Bonaparte proposed to Joséphine de Beauharnais in 1796 with a ring set with a sapphire and a diamond side by side. The two stones traditionally represent two individuals united, often interpreted as love, partnership, and two lives joined together.
