A 19th Century Bois Durci Relief Portrait Roundel of Beethoven. After Francois Lepage circa 1880.

Bois Durci was used as an ebony or hard wood substitute. It was made from hard wood sawdust mixed with animal blood that was heated and compressed in a mould.

In good condition with a repair to the reverse in the area of the suspension loop. No damage to the front of the roundel.

Approximate weight is 114 grams.

Approximate diameter is 11.3 cm.
