Georgian, George III, Thirty Six Piece Silver Gilt Dessert Service. All items are housed in a later fitted wooden case containing three silk lined wooden trays. The set comprises of twelve knives, twelve spoons and twelve forks. The forks and spoons are of Old Engish pattern form and the knife handles are of thread pattern form. This service is ready to use.
The forks and spoons are hallmarked for London 1790, while the knives are hallmarked for London 1791. The forks are marked with the maker's mark of TH. This is unidentified by Grimwade, but is possibly for Thomas Heming. The hallmarks are completely rubbed on one spoon and the maker's marks are almost completely rubbed and only partly visible on three of them. The readable mark is for Samuel Godbehere & Edward Wigan. The knife blades and knife handles are all marked by Moses Brent. All hallmarks have been photographed.
In very good condition with moderate surface wear and loss of gilt commensurate with age. The forks probably with an erasure to the rear of the terminals. The case does not have a key.
None of these items are suitable for dishwashers. Wash only in lukewarm water.
