Description

Georgian, George III, Provincial Silver Coffee Pot. Of tapering pedestal form and raised on a spreading oval foot. The rim and shoulder engraved with differing bands of foliage. Prick work detail to the foot, shoulder, rim and cover. The hinged and urnular cover with ball finial and an ebonised handle. Each side with a foliate cartouche, one side engraved with the initial 'A'.

Hallmarked to the underside of the base for Newcastle 1801 by John Langlands II. Further part hallmarked to the cover.

In good condition with moderate surface wear commensurate with age. There has been a solder repair at the top of the spout, where it joins the body. There has also been a solder repair to the inside of the body; this is in the area of engraved detail above the vacant cartouche. The last three photos show these solder repairs. Some fire scale (clouding of the silver) marks, best shown in photos 2, 3 and 4. The coffee pot is watertight and ready to use. Free of dents and creases.

Approximate weight is 778 grams or 25 troy ounces.
