Georgian, George III, Old Sheffield Plate serving tray with armorial. Circa 1790 - 1810. Of oval form with a raised and reeded border, along with twin reeded handles. The underside of the tray is wooden and covered in green baize. Features rolled over silver edges.
The armorial relates to the marital arms of Josiah Wedgwood II, the son of Josiah Wedgwood (founder of Wedgwood Pottery) and Elizabeth Allen, who were married in 1792. Josiah Wedgwood II took over Wedgwood Pottery in 1795 and was also the first M.P. for Stoke on Trent. A full and detailed report of this research will be given to the purchaser.
In excellent condition with moderate surface wear, commensurate with age. More wear to the underside where the Old Sheffield Plate is bent over the wooden and baize base. One or two very minor depressions to the main surface. Some copper bleed to the armorial.
